UPDATE on RMBC Dear RMBC Family,
I trust you are all well and enjoying the beginning of this Christmas season as we anticipate the celebration of Jesus’ birth.
I’m writing this morning to give a brief update on our schedule for the month of December. As we have assessed and discussed from this past week, leadership has decided to continue what we had planned with some modifications. Given the number of cases localized within the choir, we believe it is prudent to suspend choir indefinitely for now. We are praying for our people there to recover and heal.
We will continue to host our in-person worship service at 9 am; again, we strongly encourage physical distancing and mask wearing. The online service will continue if it is the best choice for you or your family to join us from home.
Further, we will also have an option of meeting in-person in the Fellowship Hall with increased social distancing. We will also reopen our Sunday educational opportunities for all ages. You will get a letter from our Children’s Ministries Director, Tanya Jones, outlining how check-in, Children’s Church, and Children’s Sunday School will operate for the next few weeks. Pastor Joel will also be sending information to Junior High and High School parents updating them on the schedule for the month of December. Adult Sunday School classes will also restart this Sunday, December 6, along with the Equipping Class that meets in the Fellowship Hall.
We are neither blind nor deaf to the current situation. We are working to manage the ongoing Covid pandemic as best we can, without sacrificing our mission to be the church in all of its many facets . Our appeal to you as our church family is four-fold.- First, please pray. Pray for an end to the Covid pandemic. Pray for the health of people everywhere. Pray for soft, understanding, and grace-filled hearts among us as a body of Christ towards fellow Christians and those who do not know Christ. Pray for a willingness to set aside our own desires to serve the desires of others. Pray that we will seize this moment for the kingdom of Christ.
- Second, please be wise. If you feel sick, please do not attend. Also, and I say this with humility, we know that people who are 65 or older are still the most susceptible to Covid overall. We ask, if you fall into this age demographic, please use additional discernment during this time.
- Third, please remain patient and flexible. Our great desire as your leadership is that we will be able to maintain our fellowship and meeting together. However, we realize that changes and new situations come rapidly and we need to assess them to do what we believe is best overall for this local body of Christ. That does mean that things decided in one week, may need to be changed, adapted, or suspended in part or in whole in another. Sadly, we have all had to get used to that in too many areas of our lives this past year. However, it is a reality we need to deal with. Please help us by being part of solutions.
- Fourth, please be Christlike. This is the time for the church to be the church. Brothers and Sisters, our world is obviously sick. But, its sickness in sin is far more deadly and far more pervasive than Covid could ever become. And we have been given a mandate, a great commission, to be the church, to be the hands and feet of Jesus wherever we find ourselves. Seize this opportunity to demonstrate the reason for the hope that is within you (1 Peter 3:15) to those around you by living sacrificially for Jesus with all that entails.
As always, if you have any questions, please ask me or our Church Moderator, Anthony Balakian.
Peace be to you all,
Pastor Malcolm
